We began our unit on the Haudenosauee (pronounced- Ho-den-o-show-nee). We learned that Haudenosaunee means "people of the longhouse". We started by examining the original territories of New York State that was inhabited by the 5 tribes: Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, and Seneca. The Tuscarora was a tribe that later joined the Iroquois.
