Water Experiments

This week we've been exploring our first Science Kit on water. In this first part of this kit students observe the properties of water and do several experiments to see how the property of surface tension can be altered. Surface tension is the "skin like" surface of water that pulls it together into the smallest possible volume.

We did one experiment where we put drops of water on different surfaces: foil, wax paper, regular paper, and paper towel. We wanted to see how the surface tension of the water responded to different surfaces.

This looks very cool.
I used to put drops of food coloring in a dish of milk, and then drop in liquid soap.
The soap would break the surface tension and the patterns were like magic!
